The ceremony to mark the fulfillment of the tree planting goal is part of activities during Global Climate Week that coincide with the UN climate change summit.

Guests at the ceremony included Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai, patron of the Billion Tree Campaign, and Felix Finkbeiner, an 11-year-old German boy who leads the Plant for the Planet initiative. The children's program calls on world leaders to "stop talking, start planting".

"Talking alone is not going to stop the glaciers from melting. We demand politicians, fellow citizens, parents and other children to stop talking and start planting," the boy said.
