The education system alone is not the reason why students cheat in exams, says an article in China Youth Daily. Excerpts:

According to an online poll, 83.3 respondents confessed that they fabricated essays in primary schools, underlining the failure of lessons to inculcate honesty among children.

The main factor why students cheat is the distrustful social atmosphere, which encourages competition and success and casts a blind eye toward dishonesty. As a result, children fabricate compositions to get high scores.

After growing up, most of these students pursue fame and fortune blindly; they are ready to use every possible, honest and otherwise, to achieve their goals.

The authorities should take serious steps immediately to ensure that students do not adopt unfair means to get high scores in exams. This will preempt the development of students into dishonest adults.
