Large Medium Small

Comment on " Russia visit 'signal of shared history'" (China Daily, May 10)

If the ordinary Chinese understands Russia & Europe well, such knowledge will serve them very well in many ways. If China does pursue the policy of building a large number of medium-sized enterprises, those businesses will need such knowledge in their business dealings with Russia, with the route through Russia to Europe, and with Europe. People need knowledge to feel comfortable, more so when expanding. These days medium-sized businesses can be a local company with international business dealings and maybe a few strategic foreign branches or subsidiaries. Chinese businesspeople will remain in China, but if they are to expand, they need knowledge to feel comfortable with whom they are dealing with, with where they will be going to and with the routes leading there.

Chinese medium-sized businesses can shape European businesses as well. For instance, there are the dependable hardworking Germans, from whom Chinese businesses can learn quite a number of things. Eastern Russia is prosperous as well, and their proximity is good for Asian businesses if a closer relationship can be fostered. Then there are the adventurous Nordic community (Sweden, Denmark & Norway), the Russian sphere of Poland, Belarus & Ukraine, the Western & Southern Europe region of Euro Dollar (e.g. English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, etc.) and their less developed Eastern Europeans siblings. All these nations have different characteristics.
