The forcible demolition drive that involves abuse of government power has not been curbed as the tearing down of a high school gate in Zhengzhou Henan province affecting about 700 students shows, says an article in Changjiang Daily. Excerpts:
The school gate was razed according to a previous agreement to widen a highway, the director of the local demolition office has said. He has even tried to propagate a weird logic that everyone should compromise to the level of suffering to make way for the State's welfare projects.
The director's effort to sell such logic smacks of indignation. He wants people to sacrifice and is even ready to infringe upon individual's interests for "greater public interest". Such actions apparently go against the Property Law that protects property holders from any kind of infringement.
More and more people's interests are being infringed upon as administrative power local governments and officials abuse the powers increasingly.
