Comment on "Capitalism: The evil that's vital to economy" (China Daily, May 5)

Capitalism like freedom must be monitored and controlled where and when needed.

Capitalism does help to enrich but it also help to divide and unless checked it might lead to chaos like we now see in the West. Because it divides the nation into distinct rich and poor or rather the rich gets richer while the poor remain poor. This is a scene China must not allow to develop without check and balance.

China must check and ensure the rich do something to help bring up the unfortunate so that a more desirable distribution of wealth is attained. We would not want to see the rich flashing around in Ferraris while the poor still cycle to work in the hot sun.

Thus the Chinese characteristic to Capitalism is really the check and balance element. On its own, Capitalism is "evil" that must never be allowed to fester in Chinese society as it would ultimately lead to disharmony and disunity.

Capitalism is a Western idea. Use it wisely to be benefitted. Adopt only the positive elements and totally control or discard the negative aspects.
