Comment on "Stamp out discrimination" (China Daily, April 29)

Such discriminations are not exclusive to China. There are many people in the US who are ignorant of HIV and other grave diseases. This is a global problem, and not one exclusive to China. If we want to deal with it properly, we must deal with it globally.

I welcome the decision and hope it results in greater awareness among people of the real situation surrounding HIV carriers. I hope, too, that HIV patients would lead normal lives. People should know that they would never contract the disease just by talking to or eating with patients. That would be a big step toward treating them like human beings, and a very necessary one at that.
