Reports on dearth of laborers in developed areas have become common in recent days, but they are still not optimistic news for migrant workers, says an article in Changjiang Daily. Excerpts:
The labor shortage felt by enterprises in developed areas such as the Yangtze and Pearl River Delta regions is a good sign for China's economic recovery. But given past experiences, the attractive benefits promised by some enterprises could just be a screen because they can go back on their words once they get enough workers.
Since many developed areas are trying to turn the labor shortage into big news, their entire endeavor has become a media show. Moreover, rural workers will be back in factories and enterprises after Spring Festival to meet the shortage.
As for some analysts' argument that rural workers could get jobs at home, they have overestimated the depth of the labor markets in the provinces and regions from where the laborers migrate for work.
So it's better not to get over-optimistic about the employment situation because of the labor shortage caused by Spring Festival.
