Southwest China's Yunnan province held a promotion for its agricultural products in Shanghai from Sept 11 to 13. During the three-day event, Yunnan enterprises signed contracts worth 1 billion ($160 million).

More than 500,000 people have visited the Shanghai Agriculture Exhibition Center, the venue of the activity, and 80 percent of the products sold out with 16.50 million yuan of sale volume.

Participants from Yunnan and Shanghai

The government of Yunnan province held the activity to explore the Shanghai market. Around 160 producers brought Yunnan's flowers, tea, vegetables and fruit to the exhibition.

To further cooperation between Yunnan and Shanghai, more than 100 agricultural distributors from Shanghai and Southeast China held business talks with Yunnan enterprises.

Different exhibition zones were set showing Yunnan's special catering and online shops.

During the activity, Yunnan chefs also made cuisine with Yunnan highland products.

Yunnan grapes hit Shanghai market

Yunnan grapes, called "sunshine rose" and priced at 200 yuan per kg, sold out on the first day of the exhibition. According to Kaiyuan Jinyu Agriculture Development Co.'s manager Gao Mo, their grapes cater to customers’ taste and they opened shops in Shanghai to provide them.

Shanghai enterprises see good prospects in Yunnan products

Shanghai enterprises attached great importance to Yunnan products. Shanghai-based Bright Food (Group) Co. sent purchasing specialists to the promotion to evaluate Yunnan products and plan the market.

"Yunnan vegetables stand out for abundant variety and high quality", said Shanghai Vegetable Group's president, Wang Yongfang. "We purchased 250,000 tons of vegetables from Yunnan in 2014 and expect to buy 500,000 tons this year, and plan to build a 66-hectare high quality vegetable production base in Yunnan," he added.
