The runway of Pu'er city's Lancang Civil Airport took shape on July 9. The airport, in Yunnan province, is expected to boost local tourism when it is opened in 2016.

A 360 million yuan ($57.85 million) fund was allocated for the construction of the airport. The National Development and Reform Commission approved the airport project in September, 2014; the main construction work is expected to be completed by 2016.

The airport is situated in the center of Pu'er city's tourism area. It is 30 km far away from the well-known tea plantation area of Lancang county, 30 km to Menglian county and 60 km to Ximeng county - famous for its karst caves.
