A press conference for the 14th Pu'er Tea festival was held in Beijing on May 6 to introduce the preparation progress of the festival to more than 40 media groups, including the People's Daily.
The 14th Pu'er Tea Festival will open from May 23 to 25 in the city of Pu'er in Southwest China's Yunnan province. The festival is expected to publicize Pu'er tea culture and to strengthen the application of the ancient tea grove in Jingmai Mountain to enter the World Cultural Heritage list.
The theme of this year's tea festival is based on inheriting and protecting cultural heritage. Activities during the festival will include such events as the Second Tea Culture Peak Forum, a Pu'er tea processing competition and a Pu'er specialty products trade fair. In addition, the Pu'er traditional song and dance from the Wa ethnic group will also be performed. People interested in the local tea culture can join the tea worshiping ceremony which is also an important part of the festival.
According to the press conference, the tea festival will cover discussions on three topics: the relationship between the tea and people, tea and belief, and tea and nature.
