In Pu'er, there are fossils of the wide-leaf magnolia that are about 35.4 million years old; there are the king of the old wild tea tree in the world that has lived over 2,700 years and the transition-type old tea tree over 1800 years old. The whole city has 1.2 million mu of wild old tree clusters and 18,2000 mu of cultivation-type old tea gardens. "Qiannian Wanmu Old Tea Garden" on Jingmai Mountain is hailed as "the miracle in the history of human's tea culture" and "the natural museum of world tea culture and history" by domestic and foreign experts and is already included in the Reserve List of Chinese World Heritage Sites. The old tea garden and tea culture system in Pu'er is listed as one of the "Global Key Agricultural Cultural Heritage Protection Pilot Sites" by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). In 2013, the International Tea Committee (ITC) awarded the title of "Tea Source of the World" to Pu'er.
