Natural reserves in Pu'er

There are 15 natural reserves in Pu’er, including two national, five provincial, and eight county-level. They cover 129,100 hectares, 2.94 percent of the national land area. The following are introduction of seven natural reserves in Pu'er.

1. Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve was set up in 1986 and covers 21,343 hectares. It’s home to the sub-tropical middle-mountain moist evergreen broad-leaved forest, Nomascus nasutus, Pavo muticus and Syrmaticus humiae. Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve preserves China’s biggest and most complete middle-mountain moist evergreen broad-leaved forest.

2. Wuliangshan National Natural Reserve was established in 1996 and covers 23,355 hectares. It’s home to the sub-tropical middle-mountain moist evergreen broad-leaved forest, Nomascus nasutus, loris, Syrmaticus humiae, Taxus chinensis and Bretschneidera sinensis.

Wuliangshan National Natural Reserve

Wuliangshan National Natural Reserve has the largest number of Nomascus nasutus worldwide and is known as the “home of Nomascus nasutus’”.

3. Taiyanghe Natural Reserve was established in 1985 and covers 7,035 hectares. It preserves rare wild animals, especially buffalos and southern subtropical forest ecology.

4. Nuozhadu Natural Reserve was established in 1997 and covers 21,721 hectares. It’s home to buffalos, Cyathea spinulosa, Eleutharrhena macrocarpa and Cycas pectinata.

5. Weiyuanjiang Natural Reserve was established in 1983 and covers 7,704 hectares. It’s home to Pinus khasys, loris, Pavo muticus, Cervus unicolor and boas.

6. Mojiang Xiqi Cyathea Spinulosa Natural Reserve was established in 2001 and covers 6,222 hectares. It’s home to Alsophila costularis and Cyathea spinulosa.

7. Longshan Dragon Tree Natural Reserve was established in 1986 and covers 54 hectares. It’s home to dragon trees.
