The authorities in Pu'er plan to transform the economic development of the city and to seize the opportunities of the central government's new campaign to 'develop the western regions' which aims to transform Yunnan into a leader, both regarding its economy and also its culture, while becoming a bridge to southwestern China. Pu'er aims to create a sort of national 'bridgehead' ecological economy demonstration area and four bases, which focus on bio industry, international tourism, clean energy and modern forestry. It also aims to further develop its five main industries – tea, forest, electricity, mining, and tourism, while it continues to expand the industries referred to as 'the six main characteristic industries'- coffee, tobacco, silkworm cultivation, rubber, biological pharmacy, fishery and herding. The local authorities plan to focus on the city brand as 'a paradise for a serene retreat', in the hope of promoting Pu'er and welcoming visitors from around the world.

Pu'er is committed to the preservation of its ecological system. You may not stay in Pu'er forever, but Pu'er will stay in your heart forever.
