Ximeng will host the 2013 Wooden Drum Festival themed “Spring Travel - The Intoxicating Beauty of Va Mountain” from April 12 to 14.
The wooden drum is a sacred instrument and a talisman of the Va ethnic minority. Every Va village has at least one wooden-drum house. The Wooden Drum Festival is one of the grand sacrificial events of the Va people.
Activities for the festival include traditional ceremonies such as pulling the wooden drum, sacrificing to the wooden drum, hunting and collecting holy water. Thatched roof huts will be set up all over town where locals can receive guests and sell local crafts.
Visitors also have a chance to taste traditional Va cuisine. In the evening, guests are welcomed to watch the musical Wa’s Carnival, which is full of Va dance and music elements, and dance around the bonfire.
