The Kunming-Chongqing High-speed Railway, which will be constructed in 2016, is expected to shorten the travel time between Kunming and Chongqing municipality to 150 minutes.

The 720-km-long railway will start from Chongqing, pass through Yibin city and Luzhou city in Sichuan province and end at Kunming's South Station.

The north part of the railway will link with the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-speed Railway and the south part will connect with the Pan-Asia Railway, an integrated freight network across Europe and Asia.

The railway will facilitate passenger transport through linking Kunming, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, and Beijing.

The south section of the Beijing-Kunming High-speed Railway is expected to be the main line in Southwest China.
