Yunnan will increase cooperation with Southeast Asian countries in the education sector.

The Yunnan provincial department of finance has allocated 13 million yuan ($1.95 million) to support colleges to hire foreign teachers. Two million yuan has been provided to encourage universities and colleges to hire foreign teachers to teach Thai, Vietnamese, and Cambodian.

More effort will be made to develop individuals who are multilingual.

The provincial department of finance has also allocated money to increase international cooperation opportunities. From 2011 to 2015, a total of 17.56 billion yuan has been provided to support the development of higher education and foreign exchanges.

To improve the system for assisting overseas students, the Yunnan government has set up a special scholarship fund for students from neighboring countries. Foreign students who have a good academic record will be entitled to generous levels of assistance.

From 2011 to 2015, the government has spent 40.44 million yuan awarding 1,217 scholarships to foreign students.

With the quality of education increasing in Yunnan province, more and more students have come to study in the province. The number of foreign students has increased from 532 to 2,711 in 2015, and the money to be allocated this year will increase to 20.03 million yuan.
