Yunnan and Thailand work on automatic telescopes

A 70 centimeter automatic telescope was put into operation in lijiang, eastday.com reported.

The telescope is located at the Gaomei Ancient Observatory at Lijiang, Yunnan province. “The main objective is to take advantage of Lijiang’s low latitude, ” said Qian Shengbang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yunnan observatory.

After debugging and trial observation, the telescope is now in good operation status.

The telescope was a joint effort of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yunnan observatory and the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand.

According to Qian, the Yunnan observatory has cooperated with the Institute for more than two decades.

The telescope is a new achievement in bilateral cooperation. The two will worg together in research and talent cultivation.
