The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized Dali’s Cangshan Mountain as a Global Geopark on the morning of Sept 23, Xinhua.net reported.

Cangshan Mountain’s 19 peaks are 3,500 meters above sea level, creating an undulating landscape. In 2012, Cangshan Mountain was nominated as China’s candidate to enter the Global Geopark evaluation.

“Cangshan Mountain has three advantages in applying for the Global Geopark,” said Liang Yongning, a professor at Kunming University of Science and Technology.

First is that the unique landscape features special sceneries. The second advantage of Cangshan Mountain is that it has many scenic spots, and these scenic spots have played quite an important role in popularizing the area. Biodiversity is also an advantage of Dali’s Cangshan Mountain.
