China Records certifies fungi banquet

A banquet of 100 dishes made of fungi received the certificate of China Records, a Chinese record certification organization, on August 29.

The activity was held by Yunnan Publishing Group, Yunnan Information Daily and the China Records organizing committee of the fungi banquet. Chen Hailong, chief operating officer of China Records, and Xiao Kuan, gourmet consultant of the famous documentary A Bite of China II, attended.

The banquet attracted attention from professionals and fans. After strict selection, a total of 100 cooks were qualified to join the show. They made 100 fungi dishes using the selected materials and their unique skills. Then, a strong judging team consisting of national culinary masters, experts of Yunnan dishes and nutritionists made a professional evaluation.

Jin Ziqiang, professor at Yunnan University, said that the activity is based on the food culture of common people. It aims to introduce fungi to a bigger market. Such a grand event will not only help people learn about fungi, but will also allow cooks in Yunnan meet each other and improve their skills.

Fungi from Yunnan is becoming a popular ingredient around the world. It can be seen from Yunnan to Shanghai, Europe and America. Yunnan is home to the best fungi in the world. Of the over 600 kinds of wild fungi known, more than 500 kinds can be found in Yunnan. It boasts 80 percent of domestic wild fungi types and 40 percent of the world's, with a reserve of 500,000 tons worth billions of yuan.
