The beautiful natural environment and rich ethnic characteristics have made Yunnan an ideal shooting place for many film and television works. Since 2003, it has seen numerous shooting bases spring up, such as the Yunlongwan Movie City in Kunming and Ailao Palace in Baoshan city.

Meanwhile, more and more bases will be established soon, such as Dongfang Movie City in Kunming, invested 12 billion yuan ($1.96 billion) by famous Chinese director Chen Kaige, and a 3-billion-yuan new media center by Stanley Tong, a well-known Hong Kong director.

Many classics were filmed in Yunnan, such as Five Golden Flowers and Ashimar. The Huayao Bride in Shangri-La made in Yunnan won best feature film in the China Movie Awards, and the Tea-Horse Road Series: Delamu won best digital film.
