Entry-exit passengers exceeded 1.63 million during the first half of the year to June 30, an increase of five percent over the same period last year. Among these passengers, 134,000 were cross-border tourists, an increase of 46 percent; 83,622 motor vehicles passed through, a 152 percent increase and a record high in terms of growth proportion.

Businessman and tourist arrivals through the port have surged due to the heated markets in ASEAN member countries and the restoration of off-site visa application for Hekou Port border tourism from this year. Freight volume in the port also showed steady growth since the Vietnam Red River Bridge temporarily opened to traffic.

To meet the needs of the rapid traffic growth, Hekou Checkpoint has opened a "green channel" to save passengers’ time and has launched a group clearance area for large tours. Joint inspection units have been set up to process motor vehicle and non-motor vehicle split-flows quicker. The checkpoint also signed the agreement of “one checkpoint, two inspections” with customs as well as the inspection and quarantine authorities, which has strengthened its interaction and cooperation with the joint inspection units, and has optimized allocation of resources and information sharing, The result is that travelers can now more than ever enjoy the convenience and the efficiency of the customs clearance area.
