Nearly three quarters of 20 new street gardens in Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) have been completed and the rest will be finished in fall, providing a more comfortable leisure environment for residents of the district.

Receiving 9.9 million yuan ($1.49 million) in funding from the district government, the 20 new gardens cover an area of 20,000 square meters and will serve more than 20,000 residents in the district, said Dong Yihao, an employee of Xinjiang Project Management and Consultancy Co, which is responsible for inspecting the gardens.

"More paths will be added to the gardens to make walking more convenient and make the gardens better for visiting and various other activities," he added.

Equipped with gallery frames, street lamps, and fitness equipment, the 20 street gardens are beautiful and full of life.

In recent years, Toutunhe district has built 120 street gardens and green fields. After the introduction of the 20 new street gardens, that number will be bumped up to 140.
