Urumqi’s Metro Line 1, the first Xinjiang-made metro line, is scheduled to begin operation at the end of 2018.

The operation of Urumqi’s Metro Line 1 will fill a gap in the manufacturing of rail transit equipment in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, according to local authorities.

The China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Urumqi branch has claimed that the train for Urumqi’s Metro Line 1 will be assembled at CRRC’s new manufacturing plant, which will begin operation in the second half of this year. Li Yangyang, general manager of CRRC Urumqi branch, said that the new manufacturing plant will include office areas, canteens and factories.

Last September, CRRC launched an industrial park project in Toutunhe. The first phase of the park occupies an area of 150,000 square meters, and will eventually be capable to manufacture 150 urban rail vehicles each year.
