The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone, also known as the Toutunhe district, was recently listed as a National Intellectual Property Demonstration District, according to the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO).

Toutunhe is the first district in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to enter the list.

Intellectual property has become an impetus to promote technological innovation in Toutunhe over recent years. As of 2016, Toutunhe based enterprises have achieved a total of 1,364 patents.

According to Chen Yanan, general manager of Xinjiang Green Envoy Environment Technology Ltd, during the early stages of product research, his company receives financial support from local authorities.

“Toutunhe authorities also offer suggestions to help us realize the commercialization of our research,” Chen added.

Luo Jianguang, director of the Toutunhe science and technology bureau, said that the district will continue its efforts to support local scientific enterprises.
