Zhou Qiang pledges more intl judicial exchanges

Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, said China will stride steadfastly on the road of reform and opening-up, deepen exchanges with judicial institutions around the world and jointly promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. Zhou made these remarks while attending the closing ceremony of the 10th International Meeting on Justice and Law via video link on May 21. President of the Supreme People’s Court of Cuba (TSP) Rubén Remigio Ferro also attended the ceremony.

Zhou acknowledged the bilateral cooperation between China and Cuba as a typical example of unity among developing countries.

He said China's courts have striven for justice in handling every case, actively served for law-based epidemic control and socioeconomic development, and continued reform on its judicial systems. China has built a one-stop diversified dispute resolution and litigation service system which boasts integrated resources, comprehensive online mediation services and the widest coverage, he noted, adding that the smart court construction in China has provided higher quality, efficiency and credibility to China's judicial system.

Regarding international judicial exchanges, Zhou proposed to extensively build consensus on judicial cooperation based on multilateralism, and firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations as the core and the international order based on international norms; to deepen practical cooperation in judicial area and share experiences in areas such as judgment execution, judicial reform, smart court construction and judicial administration; and strive for more judicial cooperation outcomes with innovation.

The International Meeting on Justice and Law is an international conference mechanism jointly hosted by the Supreme People's Court of Cuba (TSP), the National Union of Cuban Jurists and the University of Havana. It focuses on judiciary-related topics and is dedicated to experience exchanges among scholars and law practitioners. The meeting this year was themed on reform of judicial procedures. Judicial officials and representatives from over 10 countries including Russia, Mexico, Benin and Vietnam attended the three-day event.
