Famous special dishes and local snacks:

As Yichun borders on Hunan, many dishes in Yichun resemble Hunan food. Moreover, the food in Yichun also incorporates some characteristics of ethnic groups. The stir-fried and spicy chicken contains red chili that seduces every diner by from its appearance and taste. Zhangshu deep-fry bean curd may easily remind you of the flavor of Hunan Hakka dishes. The unique stir-fried Zhafen satisfies people who want to try something other than rice noodles and vermicelli.

The snacks in Yichun are distinctive. The most well known is Tonggu Baoyuan, that comes in various shapes (similar to dumplings). It looks and also tastes good.

List of other famous dishes and snacks:

Special dishes: Zhangshu medicinal food, Yuanzhou double roast and Ruyi winter shoots; Sanzi meat, steamed pork with rich flour, Huanchuan and braised turtle with bean starch sheets in Fengcheng; braised pork skin and deep-fried fish steamed in vinasse in Gaoan; trotter and stir-fried rice noodles with beef in Shanggao; mixed vegetable in Jing’an; bean ball with potato starch in Yifeng, and so on.

Local snacks: stir-fried Zhafen in Yuanzhou; rice ball in Zhangshu; pan-fried and stir-fried rice noodles in Gaoan; sugar-coated red chili in Shanggao; rice noodles and rice candy in Fengxin; Pengpeng bean jelly in Jing’an, steamed glutinous rice ball wrapped with indocalamus leaf; Jiuji and sugar-coated glutinous rice ball in Fengcheng; and steamed pork dumplings in Yifeng.

Local wines:

Wines are famous because of the fine springs. Yichun boasts beautiful natural scenery and high-quality springs. It was recorded in the Han and Tang dynasties that the people in Yichun brewed wines with spring water and presented them to royal families. Yichun has a developed wine-making industry and produces Zhangshu Site Liquor, Gaoan Ruijiu, Shanggao Qibaoshan Laojiao, Fengxin Baizhang and Fuyun series liquors, Yuanzhou Snake Wine and Black Glutinous Rice Wine. Zhangshu Site Liquor was named by Premier Zhou Enlai.
