(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2015-04-01

Qian Fu, key figure in Taiwan's politics and diplomacy, made a trip to the city of Nanyang, Henan province, on March 31, to promote exchanges and cooperation with the city, where the Qian family has been quite well known throughout history, for the family has a number of great politicians and scholars.

Qian, who is also president of the Taiwan Guotai Charity Foundation, brought his family along to visit some historical sites, such as the Wuhou Temple, Han Painting Gallery, the old Xinye Council, and the town of Hansang. They also attended a ceremony for a memorial tablet restoration project for Qian Fu's great-grandfather Qian Shengzu, a head of the city back in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

As the head of Nanyang, Qian Shengzu had some political achievements and was respected by the locals. After he stepped down, the people gathered donations to establish a memorial for him, which was not discovered until 2010 during an urban development project.

Qian Fu has apparently inherited the family traits by playing a role in Taiwan politics. During his visit to Nanyang, he also took part in a seminar with local officials, on the significance of a moral government, and said he will do his best to strengthen economic and cultural ties with the city and tell the people of Taiwan more about Nanyang.
