Fangcheng county has seen papaya production as a pillar industry in the revitalization of its rural economy. So far, the entire county has developed a total area of 100,000 mu (6,666.67 hectares) to grow papaya. The annual production has reached 300,000 tons.

A total of seven demonstrative villages larger than 1,000 mu have been formed in Fangcheng county. There are more than 100 households that own up to 100 mu of land. The overall revenue from growing papayas has reached 260 million yuan ($41.7 million) in the entire county.
