Nanyang to hold events to celebrate Spring Festival

Nanyang city of Central China's Henan province is going to launch a series of cultural events to celebrate Spring Festival, according to the Nanyang municipal bureau of culture, radio, TV, film, press and publication.

More than 50 kinds of events will be held, which include events featuring lantern riddles, traditional Chinese dancing, traditional Chinese opera, calligraphy and Chinese painting, and folk arts. Through the events, Nanyang aims at providing a platform to develop a festive atmosphere for residents to celebrate Spring Festival.

According to the plan, the institutions directly under the Nanyang municipal government and each county and district are going to hold 13 and 53 cultural events, respectively, during Spring Festival.

Located in the Wolonggang scenic spot, the Nanyang Opera Art Center will hold Chinese opera philanthropic performances from Feb 20 (the day after Chinese New Year) to Feb 23 (the fourth day after the Chinese New Year).

The Wolong District Cultural Center is going to hold traditional Chinese dance performances and lantern riddle events during Lantern Festival, which lasts from March 4 to 5.

The Nanyang city Art Center is going to hold a 1,000-meter-long calligrapher exhibition at Nanyang Stadium during Lantern Festival and hold a music promotion event with the theme of "Chinese Dream" in urban areas during Spring Festival.

In addition, the Nanyang Opera Art Center is going to travel to counties and give philanthropy cultural performances from the beginning of February to March 10.

Furthermore, each county and district is going to provide free cultural events to residents, which include Chinese opera performances, movie screenings, lantern riddle events, Spring Festival scrolls, calligrapher and Chinese painting exhibitions, music festivals and folk art competitions.
