Allure of historic Zunyi

If you like drinking liquor, you must have heard of Moutai.

If you are a geology enthusiast, you might want to visit the surrounding karst topography or Danxia landform.

If you are interested in modern Chinese history, you must know about the Red Army and the Long March.

And you shouldn't miss the city of Zunyi.

Location: North of southwest China's Guizhou province.

Area: 30,762 sq km.

Population: 7.52 million people.

Ethnic minorities: Miao, Bouyei, Dong, Yi, Sui, Hui, Mulam and others.

Climate: Subtropical monsoon climate with the mean annual temperature of 14.1C.

Forest coverage: 49 percent.

Allure of historic Zunyi

Plants and animals: spinulose tree fern, Chinese dove tree, silver fir, Francois's leaf monkey and giant salamander.

Abundant minerals: Manganese, aluminum, magnesium, molybdenum, nickel, mercury, pyrites and silica.

Agricultural products: Grain, rapeseed, tobacco, tea, livestock and poultry.

Chinese medicines: eucommia bark, Chinese goldthread, rhizoma gastrodiae, corktree bark and fructus evodiae.

Industries: Zunyi has more than 2,000 industrial operations. Famous enterprises include the country's biggest wire rope plant - Guizhou Wire Rope Co - the largest sponge titanium facility in China - Zunyi Titanium Factory - and the important military industrial base Jiangnan Space Investment Co Ltd.

Cultural heritage: Tomb of Yangcan, local chief in Song Dynasty, considered a treasury of ancient sculpture in southwest China. The ancient military castle Hailongdun. World-famous Zunyi acrobatics.

Scenic spots: Chishui Scenic Area, Shuanghe River water cave, Kuankuoshui River Nature Reserve.

History: A land of revolution, it is where the Red Army held its famous Zunyi Meeting in 1935 during the Long March, then fought to eventual victory after naming Mao Zedong as leader during the meeting.

Awards: National Model Prize for Residential Environment, National Model Greening City, China's Excellent Tourism City, National Garden City, and National Hygiene City.
