Making the most of mountaineering

The China-Gannan national plateau mountain challenge in Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture on the edge of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in Gansu province attracted 125 participants on the weekend.

Organized by the China Mountaineering Association, Gansu Provincial Sports Bureau and Gannan Prefecture People's Government, the event also saw about 3,000 people take part in a city-wide run to promote fitness through exercise.

A five-year strategic partnership contract was signed between the association and the prefecture government to host a series of outdoor events to help expand the region's sports and tourism industry.
