The Dunhuang expo is looking forward to being an exhibition platform displaying cultural products of the countries in the Belt and Road Initiative regions. The Belt and Road Initiative refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Road. It was proposed by President Xi Jinping to promote China's cooperation and communication with Asian and European countries.

The cultural expo, which will offer many forums as well as displays, is being held in Dunhuang for the first time and will become an annual event in the city.
