The city of Lanzhou, Gansu province saw its Bank of Lanzhou introducing “Lanlan”, its cyborg “clerk” dressed in a white “uniform”, on Nov 20, on hand to provide better service to customers, Xinhua.net reported, noting that Lanlan aroused a great deal of interest almost immediately.

The bank’s chief information officer explained that the robot uses the world’s most advanced intelligent technology and can provide voice service by answering customer questions, introducing new business modes, and monitoring various activities, to help customers.

The bank spent more than 20 million yuan ($3 million) in 2014, developing its own R&D personnel, which now number 300 (from 16 in 2010) and plans to put 2 percent of its revenues into scientific research to make it more competitive in the marketplace.

Its subsidiaries in Lanzhou’s Chenguan, Xigu, Qilihe, and Anning districts are also expected to employ these cyborg personnel.
