Lanzhou, capital of Northwest China’s Gansu province, joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) good-neighborly and friendly cooperation committee on April 9, Lanzhou Evening News reported.

An inauguration ceremony was held at Lanzhou Municipal People’s Government, at which Yu Jingdong, executive vice-mayor of Lanzhou, received a delegation led by Jiang Na, deputy secretary-general of the SCO committee.

Yu said in a speech that the development of Lanzhou needs supports from the good-neighborly and friendly cooperation committee. He said he hopes the committee will serve as a bridge to connect Lanzhou with countries and cities along the Silk Road, in order to promote their cooperation on economy and trade, culture and tourism.

Specifically, Yu hopes the committee can push forward the settlement of the Kazakhstan consulate in Lanzhou’s new area, and further command other SCO member countries to settle consulate or business organizations in Lanzhou to raise the city’s level of opening up.
