Baiyin High-Tech Industrial Development Zone

The Baiyin High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was set up on July 3, 2002. It is the first industrial park built on cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and provincial government. It is also the first major project developed in cooperation by the Gansu government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was approved by the Gansu government as a provincial development zone in July 2006 and renamed the Baiyin High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. The zone was officially approved as a national high-tech industrial development zone by the State Council on Sept 26, 2010.

The Baiyin High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is situated in the southeast of Baiyin, 69 kilometers from Lanzhou. It has a planned area of 8.05 square kilometers. The development zone is located in the center of Lanzhou, Xining and Yinchuan. Baiyin’s transportation is very convenient. It shares an airport with Lanzhou. The Baotou-Lanzhou Railway runs through Baiyin from south to north, and the Baiyin-Baojishan Railway runs from east to west.

Baiyin is well served by the Beijing-Tibet Expressway, the No 109 national highway, the No 312 national highway and the No 309 national highway. In addition, three provincial roads and 15 county roads ensure convenient transportation in Baiyin. There are plans to build five hydropower stations on the upper reaches of the Yellow River, three of them situated in Baiyin.

The Baiyin High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is divided into four areas based on different functions.

The zone promotes high technology and industrialization. It has developed six major industries including chemicals and fine chemicals, nonferrous metals and rare earth new materials, and new energy and energy conservation

To date, 85 enterprises of various industries have settled in the zone with plans to invest 6.7 billion yuan. A total of 56 projects have been put into operation.

The zone’s industrial output value was 6.03 billion yuan, and sales revenue reached 6.32 billion yuan in 2010.
