Travel around Gansu by bus

Lanzhou: Lanzhou is the hub of the road transportation system in Gansu Province with Lanzhou East Bus Station and Lanzhou West Bus Station being the two largest. There are 750 buses to different places daily and the destinations are as far flung as Xinjiang, Baotou, Xining, Zhengzhou, Chengdu and Wenzhou. Generally, buses within the province leave in the morning and arrive in the afternoon. Lanzhou East Bus Station is located at No.170 Pingliang Lu. Buses No.141, 137, 75 and 6 depart from there and the bus stop is Qiche Dong Zhan (East Bus Station).

Lanzhou West Bus Station is located at No.486, Xijin Dong Lu. Buses No.1, 6, 11, 31, 32, 33, 41, 45, 50, 56, 58, 59, 106 and 107 are available and the bus stop is Xiao Xi Hu.

The public transport system in Lanzhou is well developed, with 110 bus routes covering every corner of the city. There are buses and mini-buses at prices lower than other cities. The prices range from 0.5 Yuan to 2.5 Yuan. Usually, it will cost passengers 0.5 Yuan every five or fewer stops. The further you go the more you pay. Generally, the fare costs not more than 1.5 Yuan within downtown while it costs 2 Yuan to 2.5 Yuan to Xigu District. Usually, the minibus fare is 1 Yuan without regard for the number of stops. By Water As Lanzhou is the only provincial capital through which the Yellow River flows, rafts of both wood and sheepskin have been in use for a long time. The primitive sheepskin raft will give you a novel feeling of the Yellow River.

Jiuquan: Jiuquan Bus Station is located in No 47, Xiguan Road, Suzhou district. There are several buses daily to Dunhuang, Zhangye and Wuwei. It is about four hours' drive from Jiuquan to Zhangye and another three hours' drive to Wuwei.

Jinchang: Jinchang Bus Station in Xinhua Road (East) offers buses to Lanzhou, Wuwei, Jiayuguan and many other places within the city or neighboring cities. Jinchang is 396 kilometers (246 miles) from Lanzhou, and buses to Jinchang can be found in the long-distance bus in No.133, Pingliang Road of Lanzhou city.

Jiayuguan: Jiayuguan Long-distance Bus Station is located at the cross of Jingtiexi Road and Shenglinan Road. It provides bus daily traveling to Lanzhou, Dunhuang, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Hami, Urumqi, Jinchang, Yumen, Yinxia, Gaotai, etc.

Public bus is a convenient transport for traveling around Jiayuguan city. The bus fare is usually 1 yuan. Bus 1 is the south bound bus which heads from the centre of town to the train station. Bus 4 can take you from the train station to the Jiayuguan Fort.

Wuwei: Wuwei Long-distance Bus Station is located at Nanguanxi Road. It is the hinge of passenger bus transport in Wuwei. There are buses daily traveling to Lanzhou, Zhangye, Tianshui, Jinchang, Jiuquan, Jiayuguan, Yumen, Dunhuang, Yinchuan, Xining, etc.

There are 15 public bus lines traveling around in Wuwei downtown area now. Bus 1, 2, 12 and 102 can take the tourists to Wuwei Railway Station. Bus 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 102 can take the tourists to the long-distance bus station.

Zhangye: It is also easy to travel to or from Zhangye by long-distance bus. The East Long-distance Bus Station, located at the East Circle City Road, has buses running from Zhangye to Wuwei, Lanzhou and Yinchuan. Passengers can also take buses from the South Long-distance Bus Station in Zhangye to Dunhuang, Jiayuguan, Lanzhou, Matisi and Xining. 

Baiyin: Baiyin Bus Station stands in No.2, Renmin Road, Baiyin district, offering buses to Lanzhou every twenty minutes. In addition, the tourist bus station is in No.12, Shuichuan Road, Baiyin district.

Pingliang: Pingliang has two principal bus stations. The west station is located in Gonglu Street, offering special line buses to the Kongtong Mountain. The east station is in No 68, Jiefang Road (North). Pingliang is about 350 kilometers (217 miles) from Lanzhou, and there are several buses in the bus stations daily shuttling between the two cities.

Gannan: Buses are the only vehicles to get in and out of Gannan. Visitors can find these buses at the New Lanzhou South Bus Station at the junction of No.212 National Highway and Lanzhou-Lintao (Dingxi city) Expressway. As the seat of the prefecture government, Hezuo city has many regular buses to surrounding regions, such as Lanzhou, Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture, Dingxi city, Aba of Sichuan province and Xining of Qinghai province. The bus station is located in Xiyi Road.
