Pingtan's first top-tier hospital could soon open its doors to the public, as a final safety inspection of the new facility is expected to take place in April.

Pingtan Xiehe Hospital is the first grade-three hospital—the highest level of China's three-tier grading system for public hospitals—to be built in the city in Fujian province.

Construction on the state-of-the-art facility began in September 2012. Located in Pingtan's Jinjing bay district, the hospital occupies an area of about 120,000 square meters and shall contain 1,500 beds.

The complex is mainly composed of six buildings—an outpatient building, inpatient building, medical care center for Taiwan residents, radiotherapy building and infection treatment building—as well as some supplementary housing.
