A 300 MW offshore wind power farm, developed by State-owned clean energy specialist China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), is expected to begin construction in Pingtan, Fujian province at the end of this year.

The offshore wind power farm, to be located northeast of Pingtan Island, will cover an area of 44 square kilometers and include 60 wind turbines.

Liu Luping, deputy director and chief director of CGN New Energy Holding Company, introduced at the signing ceremony held in Pingtan on Aug 18 that the generated power will first be transmitted via 35 KV submarine cables to a 220 KV converter station established on Dalian Island before being sent into the grid system.

He also pledged that no effort will be spared in making the Pingtan offshore wind power farm a new model for offshore wind power development in China.

Pingtan, one of a few wind power resources in China, has more than 230 square meters of space where wind power can be generated. Currently, the city boasts Changjiangao wind power farm and Qingfeng wind power farm, a total capacity of 148 MV.
