The deputy director of Fujian NPC Standing Committee, Peng Jinqing, paid a visit to Pingtan, Fujian province on July 20 to investigate ecological sustainable development, especially the work being carried out on island protection.

A lecture was held centering on the preservation and management of the island, the beach and the coastal areas of Pingtan, according to Pingtan Daily.

Peng Jinqing praised the achievements made in the development and preservation of the island. He said that Pingtan should make use of its rich marine resources and good ecological environment to build an international tourist island and grow into an ecological demonstration city.

Peng also emphasized the protection of the island's environment. He said that it is fundamental to reduce any sewage drainage into the sea to ensure a pristine coastline.

Xu Weize, director of Pingtan Administration Committee, noted the suggestions put forward by Peng. He said Pingtan will pledge to keep protecting its marine resources and environment.
