Cycling enthusiasts wanting to take part in the 2016 Ocean Cup China (Pingtan) International Cycling Open Race, to be held on June 26, are being urged to sign up for the event as registration closes on June 12, ptnet.cn reported.

As of May 24, more than 1,900 cyclists from 13 countries and regions have registered for the race, according to the organizing committee.

The event, which is in its third year, is the first of its kind to combine ocean culture with a cycling race, and will be the highlight of World Ocean Day which falls on June 8 every year.

The three-day event aims to promote a green and low-carbon lifestyle as well as help turn Pingtan into an international tourism destination.

This year's race has a capacity of 2,000 cyclists and will include groups such as men's mountain cycling professionals and duathlon. The route will be 16 kilometers long and start from Haiyu Plaza.

The organizers have invited top cyclists from the Union Cycliste Internationale, the world federation for sports cycling. In addition to cycling, the event will also include running races and a cycling culture festival.
