A youth hostel at Guocai village in Baiqing township, Pingtan, Fujian province, is expected to go operational at the end of this May, ptnet.cn reported on May 4.

The youth hostel is the first of its kind in Pingtan. It highlights the green lifestyle of rural areas and is based on the renovation of a three-story old building.

The new building features rural style, giving people simple and warm feelings. Its outer walls preserve the original style of stone folk dwellings and are painted in yellow along with light grey.

"We want visitors to feel the warmth of home when they first see the building", said Wu Di, a manager of the hostel.

With white walls on its both sides, the corridor in the building has an antique-style tile floor. And the rooms are decorated with wood floors. The decoration aims to create a comfortable and clean environment.

The yard of the building has a corridor for rest, a vegetable garden and a lotus pool, which is expected to enable visitors to feel the happiness of rural life.

Many ornaments with local characteristics, such as driftwood, old cane shields and fishing gear, can be seen in the building.

Wu explained that he wants visitors to gain a better understanding of Pingtan through these ornaments.

The youth hostel will not only attract more backpackers, but also create job opportunities and boost the local economy, added an official.
