Pingtan chorus wins gold at cross-Straits chorus festival

A chorus team from Pingtan Chengdong Primary School, Fujian province won the gold prize at the Third Cross-Straits Chorus Music Festival held in Taiwan on Jan 2.

The aim of the event was to celebrate the New Year and promote music exchanges between young students across the Straits.

It was sponsored by the Taiwan Culture and Education Foundation, Taipei Philharmonic Chorus and Taipei culture bureau.

The Pingtan chorus team consisted of 39 students and nine teachers. They sang two songs, both of which received recognition from the judges and audience.

Chen Haoliang, one of the teachers said that this trip to Taiwan broadened their horizons. They saw excellent performances by other school's choruses. They also had an opportunity to visit the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus and exchange ideas with the professionals.

Chen added that the students all got large improvement in singing skills and manners through this activity.

According to the school leader, the Chengdong Primary School was known for its outstanding culture construction. Since the chorus was founded in June 2012, it has won lots of prizes. For instance, the school has got the first prizes for three consecutive years at the Fuzhou Student Chorus Festival. It was also invited to give performances at the Spring Festival Gala of Fuzhou children's channel in 2014.
