Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone in Fujian province started the first stage construction of a grain warehouse area on Dec 21, local news portal ptnet.cn reported.

With a total investment of over 130 million yuan ($20 million), the warehouse covers a combined area of nearly 70,000 square meters.

Its first stage project, which covers nearly 40,000 square meters, will consist of six grain warehouses, each with a storage capacity of 10,000 tons. It will also include an office building, a quality inspection center, a service center, an apartment building and fire pools.

Local officials said that the first stage is expected to be completed in September 2017.

The officials added that once completed, it will help upgrade Pingtan's grain storage facilities and enhance the grain storage safety so as to ensure the steady and sound development of local grain circulation.
