Soudelor brings gales, rain to Pingtan

Typhoon Soudelor has set a new record for fastest wind speed in Pingtan, Fujian province, the local meteorological bureau said on Sunday, ptnet.cn reported.
The typhoon, the 13th this year, landed in neighboring Putian city late Saturday night, packing powerful gales and downpours over the whole province.
The maximum wind speed at Beicuo, a suburban town of Pingtan, reached 51.7 meters per second, the highest over the past five years since the establishment of an automatic weather station.
Winds of 36.3 meters per second were detected at Tancheng town, the highest in downtown Pingtan since 1971.
Soudelor also brought torrential rains to all parts of Pingtan, with the heaviest rain falling in Zhonglou town (126.4 mm), Pingyuan town (107.9 mm) and Su’ao town (102.2 mm).
