Pingtan can serve as a terrific transfer stop for Hong Kong business people in trades with Taiwan, according to John Tsang Chun-wah, Financial Secretary (FS) of Hong Kong.

Tsang made the remark during a tour of Pingtan on July 21 to inspect its development and enhance trade and economic communication.

The Hong Kong guests travelled to a number of business locations including the Haitan Ancient City, the duty-free Taiwan Commodity Market, the Aoqian Passenger Terminal and the Pingtan Subsidiary of TPK Holdings.

Tsang said he was impressed by Pingtan’s achievements in all areas over the past years.

Li Dejin, Secretary of the Pingtan Party Working Committee, explained Pingtan’s development, pointing out that it has improved infrastructure and implemented preferential policies for industries. Pingtan hopes to learn from Hong Kong’s experience in shipping, finance and building a free trade port.
