A delegation from the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ), headed by Shen Xiaoming, director of the FTZ’s administration, visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on May 14 to learn about its development.

Shanghai FTZ is China’s first FTZ, inaugurated in September 2014. The Pingtan FTZ, part of the larger Fujian FTZ, went into operation on April 21 this year. Based on an overall development plan, the Pingtan FTZ will focus on cross-Straits cooperation.

Li Dejin, director of PCPZ’s administration, explained Pingtan’s goals, tasks and industrial layouts, and said that Pingtan hopes Shanghai can help with its construction.

Shen and his entourage were intrigued by Pingtan’s innovations in customs clearance, saying it definitely boosted cross-Straits cargo and personnel exchange. He also pledged to enhance communication with Pingtan for mutual success in the future.
