Strong tremors were felt in Pingtan county, Fujian province, following a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck near Taiwan on Monday morning.

The earthquake jolted the sea off the east coast of Hualien, Taiwan at 9:42 am, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

Many residents in Pingtan, 68 sea miles from Taiwan, reported that they have felt the effects.

“I was at work when I felt the chair shaking for several seconds. I knew it was an earthquake,” said Mr. Lin.
