Xiao Gang, president of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), led a delegation to the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province on March 22 to investigate the development of a free trade zone.

The CSRC officials inspected some key projects, including a customs check point, a touch panel manufacturing plant, a passenger terminal and a duty-free market.

CSRC will closely work with the Fujian FTZ by improving the capital market’s role in the FTZ construction. A prosperous FTZ will help create a more vigorous capital market with a variety of reforms, said Xiao.

Fujian is grateful for CSRC’s support and hopes CSRC can increase endorsement for Fujian’s FTZ development, said Zhang Zhinan, executive vice governor of Fujian, adding that Pingtan, with a geographical advantage, is looking for more preferential policies in boosting cross-Straits ties and investments from Taiwan.

Two of Pingtan’s essential goals in the next phase are to become an international tourist island and a “Common Homeland” for people across the Taiwan Straits, said Li Dejin, director of the PCPZ’s administrative committee.
