The Free Trade Zone (FTZ) office in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province welcomed 24 cadres from across the province on Feb 4.

The cadres were all elite professionals in the fields of finance, customs, local taxation and business attraction. They will stay in Pingtan in next three years for work regarding FTZ construction.

Lin Jiangling, deputy director of the PCPZ’s administrative committee, told the 24 cadres that Pingtan boasts a bright future with a number of preferential policies from central authorities. He hoped they can contribute to the area’s FTZ construction.

The decision to establish an FTZ in Fujian was announced during a regular meeting of the National People's Congress on Dec 26. It will be composed of three parts – in Fuzhou (31.26 sq km), Xiamen (43.78 sq km) and Pingtan (43 sq km).

The FTZ in Pingtan, which is expected to come into operation by March, will focus on three sectors – high-tech, port economy and leisure tourism, authorities said.

The FTZ office will study specific policies, pilot projects and working procedures pertaining to FTZ construction in Pingtan.
