Entrepreneurs and scientists are pressing for a forum that promotes innovation development to become an annual tradition in Pingtan, Fujian province.

In a joint proposal issued, following the first edition of the Pingtan Innovation Forum for Entrepreneurs and Scientists, China on Dec 16, more than 400 participants advised that the forum be held in Pingtan on July 8 every year.

The forum can become an occasion for applying innovation to development strategies, and cooperation between government, enterprises and universities. It can also serve as a platform for technology and information exchange, according to the proposal.

It says that China will stress innovation more in the new economic trend, cultivate more entrepreneurial talents and boost technology development.

As the sole experimental area on the Chinese mainland open to Taiwan, Pingtan has carried out a wide range of mechanism reforms and delegated administrative powers to lower levels, which will be conducive to innovation and business startups.

In a development plan approved by the State Council, Pingtan will build up a characteristic industrial system featuring high-technology, modern services, a marine economy and tourism by 2020.
